Switzerland, the starting point of the EuroVelo 15, or the point of arrival for those riding the River Rhine in the opposite direction, contains the most mountainous part of the route.
The longest stretch of the EuroVelo 15 is in Germany. It runs over 900 kilometres from Lake Constance to Emmerich am Rhein on the Dutch border.
The River Rhine joins France and Germany over a distance of 180 kilometres. Following the course of the EuroVelo 15 on the French side from Basel, one passes through some wonderfully varied Alsatian countryside in the Haut Rhin and Bas Rhin departments.
After entering the Netherlands, the Rhine splits into several branches before making its way towards the North Sea through the wide delta it shares with the Meuse and Scheldt rivers.
