Garden and Flower Festival
The unique open-air flower festival ‘Chrysanthema’ in Lahr, a town in the Black Forest, fascinates its visitors from October 22 to November 13, 2016. The historic city centre is transformed into a colourful spectacle of flowers. This year’s motto is ‘autumn-poetry’.
Fun for the whole family
The ‘Ichenheimer Jahrmarkt’, a fair in Neuried, a town in the Black Forest, takes place on October 26, 2016. Because of its 145 booths and 240 years’ tradition, this fair guarantees authentic and fun-filled experiences.
Magical adventures await you in Bad Säckingen, Germany, from November 3-6, 2016. During this weekend, several events evolve around fairy tales and legends, which will be told and acted out in different locations. Some tales encourage kids to actively participate.
The Europa Park with its more than 100 attractions and shows, 13 rollercoasters and 14 European-themed areas is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany. In autumn, the whole park is transformed into a Halloween extravaganza with spooky decorations and frightening shows and parades.
A very special celebration for the whole family is the “Herbstvergnügen und Drachenfest” at the Fortress Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz on October 30, 2016. Various activities, like a regional market and creative hands-on stations for kids are offered. One of the highlights are the numerous kites in the sky.
Autumn – the season of wine and culinary delights
You have always wondered how wine was made. Vintners around the Kaiserstuhl now offer the opportunity to help during the grape harvest. Participants are not only able to get hands-on experiences on picking grapes, but also expert information from friendly locals.
A culinary tour through the town of Laufenburg on the Swiss-German border takes you back to the times of the Habsburg dynasty. Special culinary delights of these times are presented in locations on both sides of the river Rhine from October 15-30, 2016. The “Habsburg Wochen” (‘Habsburg weeks’) are not only focussed on the culinary aspect, but also on the historical aspect of the Habsburger and their impact on Laufenburg.
A special celebration of local wine is held in Rüdesheim on October 21-23 and 27-30, 2016. The ‘Tage des Federweißen’ offer a variety of musical performances and good local wine and food.

Special performances, unique exhibitions and hands-on workshops are presented in 47 locations all around Cologne on the ‘museums night’ on October 29, 2016. All participating museums and locations can be visited between 7pm and 3am with a single ticket. November 11 marks the beginning of the carnival season in the Rhineland. The city of Dusseldorf celebrates this day with “the Awakening of the Hoppeditz”. Thousands of carnival-enthusiasts gather in front of City Hall to welcome the “Fifth Season”.
